A thrilling movie that highlights on the bad side of technology nowadays. James is a driver working for Lyft company. One night, he picks up a passenger, Jessica. Lately, both of them find themselves entering a dangerous plot against a manipulative psychopath named Bruno. They struggle to spare their lives.
Competently crafted enough to work well as a résumé-builder for its participants, but also underwhelmingly conceived enough to impress viewers as little more than a forgettable time-killer.
Ultimately, "Ride" feels a little like a drama class exercise, with the leads digging deep into their characters' motivations and feelings. All three nail their parts. But their story never gets out of first gear.
It isn't exactly a revolution in filmmaking, but it's entertaining enough over the course of its brief runtime to not wear out. At times it's funny, at others it's tense, and throughout it shines bright with a passion for the city of Los Angeles.
...the threesome are entertaining, and Brill, as the crazed Bruno, has his moments. He's like a younger Peter Sarsgaard, who has mastered the art of playing smarmy.
