This Is Us - Season 3, Episode 02: A Philadelphia Story
Trailer
The life of an ordinary family that struggles against having a good and comfortable life, so they pass through the hard life and do their best, in order to save their children. As Kate, Kevin, and Randall, three brothers of the same age, who seek to have a good life and struggle against passing their 38th birthday.
It is this kind of groundwork in these episode arcs that allows for the show to form lasting bonds with the audience -- bonds that keep people entertained even if the episode is on the bleaker side.
There's no update on "her" and no info on 1970s Rebecca's mystery man in this week's This Is Us, but there is a huge reminder that Randall has spent his whole life trying to find his place.
It is also worth mentioning the realness that is felt throughout Kate and Rebecca's moment during the IVF scene. It's a scene you rarely see on television and honestly, it's only something that couples going through it know and understand.
The shocking thing about the episode is that none of the other Pearsons even realized how or why that would be hurtful. They need to check their privilege, though, because Randall wouldn't do that to any of them.
It's one of those well-observed, low-key, character-driven episodes that This Is Us doesn't get enough credit for. You won't find any twists or intense tear-jerking scenes here. It's for the best.
