This movie centers on a 14 year-old-boy, struggling with gender identity and religion. He then begins to use fantasy to escape his life in the inner city and find his passion in the process.
Given its compact running time, the film proves a surprisingly rich experience, one that effectively balances hope and possibility with some of the harsher realities of disenfranchised LGBTQ youth.
In general, Saturday Church opens up a necessary conversation. It is a story of hope and redemption that had me crying by the end scene. Its use of visuals and color cleverly convey emotions without saying a word.
