The tragic 1915 Galipoli Campaign of WWI told through the lens of six New Zealanders who were there. Inspired by graphic novels, the filmmakers use animation to go beyond the limitations of the usual black-and-white archive images of the war.
25 April doesn't seek to reinterpret the past: its mission is to document it is a direct and accessible way and it does that magnificently. It is assured of a long life, if only in the schoolrooms of the future, but it certainly warrants watching now.
